Cristian Lopez (CEO of SMARTIVE UK) participated as a speaker at the Onshore Wind 2019. During the panel “Onshore Asset Managemet: latest trends and critical issues” Cristian presented the results of the SmartCAST Platform for wind turbine failure prediction to a selected representation of the UK onshore wind industry. UK Onshore wind companies are at the forefront of work to rethink how to manage existing power assets to improve efficiency and extend lifetimes. The average age of the onshore wind turbines in the UK is 8 years. It means that in 2 years the half of the fleet in the UK will be 10 years old. Operators will face an increase in the O&M costs, an increase of the failure rates and a diversified fleet (Makers and Models). New tools such a wind turbine failure prediction system are helping Operators to reduce O&M costs by identifiying and anticipating potential failures. New challenges such Life Extension will also need the support from predictions systems in order to calculate the Damage Equivalent Load (DEL) and Remaining Useful Life (RUL). Natural Power, DNV-GL and Siemens-Gamesa were also invited to the panel. The event was organized by Renewable UK at the Hilton Hotel in Glasgow on November 5th
